Originally designed by McKim, Mead, and White, this weekend pavilion on the Havermeyer estate above the East River in the Bronx was expanded and restored where the primary structure remained. Beneath the existing roof umbrella, a new layer of rooms-four bedrooms, a kitchen, and den-wraps around the original wood paneled salon. The new plan and extensive glazing maintain the salon's connection to the outdoors. A cantilevered deck was added to the riverside of the pavilion and the roof was canted up to take natural light and the extraordinary view.
